Vancouver Camera Show & Swap Meet

For those who live in the Vancouver area, there's going to be a camera show & swap meet. Apparently there's only one every year and it's a good chance to buy or sell cameras and other accessories. People not only come from the area but from the across the country and also US and other countries. I've never been to one but I think it's going to be interesting. It will be $5 for regular admission but I think it will be worth the money to see other's collections and if you can bring a new toy home.

Date: Sunday, April 17th, 2011
Time: 10 am - 4 pm
Location: Cameron Recreation Centre
9523 Cameron St, near Lougheed Mall
               Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada

SX-70 Serial Number Calculator

many serial numbers of old film cameras reveal their manufacture information

the link below automatically calculates the info for you once you enter the serial (unlike the canon data codes where you have to look up by yourself)

SX-70 Serial Number Calculator

and my results are:

The complete serial number you entered is c404246516.
Your camera has the original SX-70 shutter electronic design ("hybrid shutter").
Your camera is probably an original SX-70 or Alpha / Alpha 1.
The serial number itself is: 42465
Your camera was made on March 6, 1974 during the A shift.

So my SX-70 is about 37 years old

And if you want to find out about your canon

Gear update 2

all these camera came from ebay at really good prices. best bet is to buy off people who got their items from estate sales or inherited them. but you will have to take the risk of them not working since those people are not photographers and have no idea how to test them.
